Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker issued the following statement announcing the first U.S.-Ukraine Business Forum on July 13, 2015 in Washington, D.C.

“In recent months, the Government of Ukraine has taken a number of decisive steps to create new conditions for private sector growth by deregulating the economy, reducing corruption and removing systemic obstacles that have held back Ukraine’s growth for the past two decades. The Government has established an Ombudsman for Business and an Anti-Corruption Bureau, reduced some administrative burdens on business, and taken initial steps toward putting its finances onto a more sustainable footing. Ukraine has more work to do, but we want to encourage further positive reforms, and we know that the experience of United States businesses can lend crucial momentum to that effort.

“The U.S.-Ukraine Business Forum that will take place on July 13 in Washington, D.C., is a signal of the U.S. Government’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s transformation into an economy led by the private sector and grounded in the rule of law. This event will bring U.S. CEOs and business leaders into direct dialogue with top Ukrainian policymakers so that the ideas and know-how of American business can be brought to bear in tackling Ukraine’s economic challenges.”

The U.S.- Ukraine Business Forum will seek to engage relevant stakeholders across various industry sectors in Ukraine, including agribusiness, IT, energy and infrastructure. It is expected that Cabinet members from the U.S. and Ukrainian Governments will participate alongside business leaders from the private sector.
