U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker issued the following statement today on the House Judiciary Committee’s actions on H.R. 9, the Innovation Act:

"This week, the House Judiciary Committee took a significant step to build on recent congressional efforts to curtail abusive patent litigation and level the playing field for American innovators by reporting out the Innovation Act by a 24-8 vote.

Like the recent progress in the Senate, I applaud the committee’s bipartisan efforts to further strengthen our country’s patent system. The Administration strongly supports moving balanced and meaningful reform forward this year.

I look forward to working with both Houses of Congress to complete the needed work on these bills to enact legislation that protects our innovators and grows our economy.”
