Yesterday, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews met with Korea’s Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) to discuss progress under the commercial dialogue between Commerce and MOTIE. During their meeting, the deputy secretary reaffirmed the mutual commitment to expanding trade and economic cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

Deputy Secretary Andrews also delivered remarks at an Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Forum hosted by MOTIE and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The event, organized by the Commonwealth Center of Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), aimed to bring technology and industry experts together to further explore opportunities and resolve challenges in promoting innovation. The forum proved to be an excellent occasion to strengthen commercial and investment ties between the U.S. and Korea.

In his remarks, Deputy Secretary Andrews emphasized the importance of promoting prosperity within the Asia-Pacific region, as well as around the world. He also discussed the exemplary steps the United States has recently taken to continue the collaboration with Korea, as well as the resulting benefits for both countries. Deputy Secretary Andrews affirmed that the forum shaped further collaboration on important topics such as advanced manufacturing. Deputy Secretary Andrews also recognized CCAM and KIAT’s recent partnership, designed to create new and innovative technology that will expand advanced manufacturing sectors for both countries.

The Department of Commerce will continue working to strengthen the commercial relationship and friendship with Korea, including through increased trade and investment with the Asia-Pacific region.
