Secretary Pritzker tours Flextronics’ Global Innovation Center

Earlier this week, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker visited Flextronics’ Global Innovation Center in Silicon Valley to observe some of the nation’s most cutting-edge technology firsthand, and learn how the Department of Commerce can best tailor its resources to support innovation.

The Global Innovation Center in Milpitas, California is a product introduction facility that provides design, engineering, and manufacturing resources to help customers bring ideas to market. Collaboration between tech manufacturers, engineers, and innovators at the center encourages the creation of new products that are transforming the way companies do business. For example, Flextronics unveiled a new software product earlier this week called Flex Pulse, which combines and interprets live streaming data from multiple sources to provide intelligence on any global variables that may impact or disrupt manufacturing supply chains.

As “America’s Innovation Agency,” the Department of Commerce works each and every day to set the conditions for American innovation to thrive. Many of the Department’s 12 bureaus contribute in some way to the strength of our nation’s digital economy. For example, the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) issues patents that protect intellectual property, the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) creates technology standards, and the Economic Development Administration (EDA) invests in innovation ecosystems across the country. These efforts – among many others – are supporting innovation and job creation in American communities.
