Digital technologies have quickly become a driving force of entrepreneurship and innovation in the 21st century. They have changed the way people live, work, and communicate; and how businesses access markets, manage supply-chains, and enable transactions.

Digital technologies were the topic of discussion between U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Marketplace host and senior editor Kai Ryssdal, who conducted an armchair discussion at the Internet Association Virtuous Circle Conference in Rosewood, California. During the conversation, Secretary Pritzker highlighted the Department of Commerce’s commitment to keeping the U.S. on the cutting edge of the digital economy.

In addition, Secretary Pritzker announced the expansion of the Digital Attaché program, a key initiative of the Department’s comprehensive effort to address 21st century digital trade barriers.  Following the success of a pilot program in six markets, the initiative will double its global reach, creating more dedicated resources for U.S. companies navigating digital economy hurdles overseas.

As part of her visit to the Bay Area, Secretary Pritzker also participated in the World Economic Forum and Next: Economy Summit: Future of Work conference, where she highlighted the Commerce Department’s exciting digital economy initiatives.
