Statement from U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker on National Minimum Wage Day

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today issued the following statement on National Minimum Wage Day:

 “Today, on National Minimum Wage Day, I join President Obama, government officials, business leaders, American workers and the general public in showing our support for increasing the minimum wage to $10.10. Raising the federal minimum wage is good for American businesses, workers and families. Higher wages help boost worker productivity, increase employee morale, improve business efficiency, and help families achieve economic independence and security. Since 2013, 13 states and the District of Columbia have taken action to raise the minimum wage – benefitting over 7 million workers. While that momentum is building, there are still millions of Americans who do not receive equal pay for equal work. Congress should act once they are in session to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10, which will help drive our economic recovery and ensure America remains globally competitive in the 21st century economy.”
