
Ethan Corson was the Director of the Office of the Executive Secretariat in the Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce from May 2015 until September 2016. Mr. Corson oversaw the Office’s briefing book, correspondence, and administrative teams. The office is responsible for coordinating the development, clearance, and submission of all written materials for the Secretary and Deputy Secretary’s review, including their daily briefing books. In this capacity, he also served as a point of contact and liaison for the White House Office of Cabinet Affairs and the National Security Council, including providing the Department’s weekly reports to the President. Mr. Corson also oversaw the Office of the Secretary’s administrative department, which is responsible for managing a $15 million budget.
Prior to becoming Director, Mr. Corson was an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of an international law firm, where he maintained an active pro bono practice, including federal litigation under the Voting Rights Act. He was selected as a 2015 Washington, D.C. Rising Star by Super Lawyers, a national rating service of outstanding lawyers. In 2012, he took a leave from his law firm to serve as Deputy Voter Protection Director for the Obama – Biden campaign in Wisconsin.
Mr. Corson holds a B.S. from Washington University, where he was a member of the baseball team. He earned a J.D., cum laude, from Washington University School of Law, where he was an Honor Scholar, a recipient of the Judge John W. Calhoun Award for Excellence in Trial Practice, and an associate editor of the Washington University Global Studies Law Review.
