Jeffrey Weiss

Profile

Jeff provides advice and counsel to the Secretary on a wide variety of domestic and global economic policy matters, including regulatory, standards, aviation, supply chain and infrastructure issues, digital economy, and the Internet of Things.  Jeff serves as the overall U.S. lead and coordinator for the G20 talks on digital economy, innovation, and the new industrial revolution; chairs the Border Interagency Executive Council’s External Engagement Committee; is leading development of a national competitiveness strategy for U.S. seaports, and serves as Executive Branch liaison to the Council of the ABA's Section on Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice.

Previously, he served as the Associate Administrator of the Office of Management and Budget's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).  At OIRA, he helped to lead: the Administration's development of regulatory policy, White House review of significant Executive Branch regulatory actions, the Administration’s regulatory cooperation initiatives with Canada, the European Union, and Mexico, and revision of Federal policy on standards and conformity assessment.  Jeff also served at USTR as the senior policymaker and negotiator on regulatory, standards, and conformity assessment matters, including in the WTO Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade, the Doha Round’s Non-Agricultural Market Access negotiations, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership talks. 

Jeff received his AB from Duke University and his JD/MPP from Harvard Law School and the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
