Lauren Leonard currently serves as Director of the Office of White House Liaison at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

In this role, Lauren coordinates directly with the White House in the hiring, retention, and transition of political appointees within the Obama Administration at the Commerce Department.

Before working at the Commerce Department, Lauren worked for the Obama Administration’s Office of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers at the U.S. Department of Labor from 2009 to 2014. In her role as Deputy Director, she helped coordinate federal efforts to assist communities affected by the downturn in the American automotive industry.

As a student at the John Marshall Law School, Lauren first became involved with Obama for America as an intern in May 2007. She later ran the voter protection hotline at the Obama for America national headquarters, and went on to serve as Deputy National Headquarters Manager.

Lauren received her Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School and has Bachelors of Arts Degrees in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
