NCEI Eastern Region Climate Services

NOAA/NCEI's Regional Climate Services provide the data, tools, and information that help private and public sector constituents in the East reduce their risk and improve their resiliency to the impacts of climate variability and change. The Eastern Region of the United States (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia) has four of the Nation’s 10 largest metropolitan areas, three of the top five U.S. ports based on the value of fish landed, and five of the Nation's top 20 ports based on international cargo volume, making it one of the most climate-vulnerable in terms of economy and population. Heavily populated coastal areas, aging infrastructure, and the nation's oldest marine fishery are a few major examples of the challenges that communities are responding to across the region.

Ellen Mecray is the NOAA Regional Climate Services Director for the Eastern Region, based in Taunton, Massachusetts. She is also the U.S. colead for the Gulf of Maine Council’s Climate Network, the colead for the New England Federal Partners Climate committee, and the lead for the Federal Climate Partners for the Mid-Atlantic.
