In 1979, the NOAA Seattle Library was dedicated to the memory of Robert L. Charnell and Patrick Laird. These PMEL oceanographic researchers were lost at sea with the MV HolaHola in December of 1978 in the Alenuihaha Channel off the island of Hawaii.
The NOAA Seattle Library was established in Building 3 of the NOAA Western Regional Center (WRC) in the Summer of 1983. It is administered by Library and Information Services Division in Silver Spring, Maryland as part of NESDIS/NODC. Library collections are intended to support NOAA missions and research. It may be used by all NOAA or JISAO employees and contractors.
