The U.S. Census Bureau’s Innovation and Operational Efficiency (IOE) program exemplifies operational excellence. Begun in 2010 by former Census Bureau Director Robert Groves, the program has resulted in nearly $46 million in combined savings and cost avoidance to U.S. taxpayers. Greenhouse gases, or GHGs as we call them, stream out of power plants, seep out of landfills, flow from vehicle traffic and rise from commercial buildings and homes. Emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other GHGs are nearly ubiquitous, and this makes them difficult to measure.

First, in light of the recent tragedy at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, I ask that readers reflect on how much work is still left to do to achieve true equality in the U.S, especially for LGBT people of color. There remain many things beyond the right to marry that must be addressed to ensure every part of the L-G-B-T community is free to live safe and happy lives.
