She joined former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Steve Preston to discuss their leadership experiences in the public and private sectors, and shared lessons learned and best practices for the next Administration.

When they got home from the steel mills, my grandfathers’ overalls would be covered with grease. Their stories made it clear that the work wasn’t just dirty, but also physically demanding and dangerous. Yet as tough as those jobs were, I also understood that they paid well and helped my grandfathers reach the middle class.

Two years ago, I had the opportunity to become a part of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE). I walked into the kickoff meeting with much enthusiasm. Yes, it was indeed an honor to be asked to serve our great country in such a role. Yes, I was going to meet other bright minds from all over the country — many of whom I either knew or had read about their work.

Today, Andrews delivered opening remarks at the second public meeting of the full DEBA, thanking members for their contributions to the Commerce Department’s successes in the digital economy space.

Name a European country that is among our top trading partners and whose multinationals employ more than 400,000 workers in the United States. Their highly skilled workforce extracts and processes the petroleum that fuels our cars.  They manufacture the ice cream and beer that fuel our summers and the semiconductors that are the brains in our smartphones.

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker hosted the East African Heads of State roundtable in New York City. Held alongside the United Nations General Assembly meeting and the U.S.-Africa Business Forum, the roundtable brought together East African leaders to discuss business development, investment opportunities, and economic growth in their respective countries.

The U.S. Department of Commerce today released a new report that shows U.S. metropolitan areas exported more than $1.3 trillion in merchandise exports in 2015, accounting for 89 percent of all goods exported from the United States. The 2015 Metropolitan Area Export Overview states that 156 metro areas exported more than $1 billion of goods to consumers around the globe.

Many of my early customers and Kickstarter backers were friends and neighbors, and this community spirit really helped me get my business off the ground.  I’m also grateful for the support of local synagogues. Baked by Yael is one of very few kosher bakeries in the area, and it’s been a joy to help cater so many families’ special occasions.

A fire alarm sounds. An announcement comes over the office public address system: “A fire has been reported in the building. This is not a drill. Please move to the nearest stairwell and exit the building.” As your colleagues leave their desks, you loosen the wheel locks on your wheelchair and wonder, “Will I be able to get out of the building?”

As seen on the TODAY show this morning,  Al Roker got an exclusive first look at NOAA's upgraded weather satellite, which will scan the skies five times faster, with four times the image resolution while it’s in orbit. In six months, this new device will send back more weather data than all U.S. weather satellites combined over the last 41 years.
